What do we expect from our minister?
He has to be constant and always be there
Do we think he should be like superman?
For the whole human race doing all he can
Has he to be perfect never make a mistake?
Never getting it wrong, he'd need to be great
If you don’t agree with what he has to say
Would you pretend to agree, come what may?
What if in the pulpit he accidentally swore?
Would you huff and puff and walk out the door?
What if you found that he likes his drink?
Or on occasions he's went over the brink
And what if a rude joke with you he did share?
Would you say he's not fit for the collar to wear?
We expect him to be there when we are not well
And if he's not our, friend's we soon tell
We forget that he has his worries too
And it isn't always about me and you
We put him high on a pedestal way out of reach
When he's not in the Church we still expect him to preach
He may be a leader but he's a brother too
He's not super human he's like me and you
It seems it's ok if we're sometimes bad
But if it's the minister boy we get mad
We get on our high horse and spread it around
That not at all times our minister's sound
He must be holy and he's never to sin
Can't you see the mould you're putting him in?
He isn't the saviour he's a man made of flesh
And each Sunday morning he tries to afresh
The Holy Spirit that's within your heart
The wisdom of God he tries to impart
The message of the bible which is relevant today
The need to be joyful and continually pray
So remember the minister is just a man
Trying to serve God to the best that he can
